About Us　　

SUN YAT-SEN MEMORIAL HOSPITAL, SYSU, Also called the Second Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University (SYSU), was originally founded in 1835 as an eye clinic by an American missionary named Dr. Peter Parker. It is the first hospital in China that provided western medical service. It is also the primary place where Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, the great revolutionary forerunner, studied medicine and later pursued the path to build a democratic nation. With an exciting period of growth and expansion for more than 180 years, the hospital has become one of the best teaching hospitals in China, famous for its medical service, education, research and health care.　　

　 　

The hospital now has nine national key clinical departments, 23 Guangdong Provincial clinical departments, and two medical key disciplines for the “Twelfth Five-Year” Guidelines of Guangdong Province. It has been recognized as an International Science and Technology Collaboration Base, and owns one key laboratory of Guangdong Province, four Engineering Technology Research Centers of Guangdong Province, one medical key laboratory for the “Twelfth Five-Year” Guidelines of Guangdong Province, one key laboratory of Guangdong Higher Education, and one key laboratory of Guangzhou City. For the “Thirteenth Five-Year” Guidelines, the hospital aims to build a national key laboratory on “RNA and Major Diseases”.　　

　 　

Its scientists and doctors are earning the hospital international acclaim. They include two National Cheung Kong Scholars, three National Thousand Talents, one National “10 Thousand” Talent Program Talent, two winners of National Science Fund for Outstanding Young Scholars, three winners of National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, one Pearl River Scholar, and 17 senior renowned doctors of Sun Yat-sen University. 　　

　 　

In recent years, the hospital has won an increasing number of high-quality scientific research projects, which include the National 973 Program, the National 863 Program, the National Natural Innovation Research Group Program, the Major International Collaboration Program of National Natural Science Foundation, and the Major National Science and Technology Project. In 2016, the hospital earned 75 research projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Accumulating Research articles are published in high-impacted journals, including a cover story in Cancer Cell and an original paper in Nature Genetics. Recently, a project led by Erwei Song has won the Second Prize in the State Natural Science Award of China, which is a breakthrough for the hospital’s scientific development.

Opening Positions and Selection Criteria　　

1. Leading Talent: 　　

Applicants are expected to have rich academic backgrounds, master innovative and critical techniques for prosperous scientific development, and achieve scientific results with high impact. Successful applicants should meet the criteria for at least one of the following programs:　　

-Thousand Talent Program (Long-termed Program for Innovative Talents and Thousand Talent Program for Foreign Experts)　　

- Cheung Kong Scholar Accredited Professor Program　　

- National Natural Science Fund of China for Outstanding Young Scholars 　　

　 　

As an alternative, applicants could be experts with equivalent academic status and knowledge, or specialist in clinical medicine with global influence.

- doctoral degree;　　

- associate professor or equivalent position (or above) in overseas universities or institutes/ professor or equivalent position in China’s universities

2. Outstanding Young Talent:　　

Applicants are expected to focus on specific research areas and undertake scientific projects independently. Successful applicants should have relatively rich academic backgrounds and great potentials, and have published research articles in international journals as the first or correspondent author, or won scientific awards in recognition of their science results. Potential talents should  meet the criteria for at least one of the following programs:

3. Urgently Needed Talent:　　

Applicants are expected to be active, creative, and highly competent, with high-impact and original achievements in the field.

- working or study experience in overseas universities

4. Professional Researchers:　　

Applicants are expected to be either excellent doctoral graduate or postdoc fellows in overseas universities or institutes, or research staff in overseas renowned universities or institutes.

- having graduated for less than two years;

Benefits and Support　　

- Start-up funding: start-up research funding will be allocated by Guangdong Province or National Departments in accordance with different talent programs. Supplemental funds will also be provided by Sun Yat-sen University and Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. The specifics will be discussed during interviews.　　

　 　

- Relocation package: a resettlement subsidy will be provided in a lump sum by the Central Financial or Guangdong Provincial Departments in accordance with different talent programs.
